One of the fastest growing trends in emergency medicine today is the utilization of bike medics. Bike medics bridge the gap between rapid and mobile response. The advantage of bike medics is that they are able to navigate through areas that may be densely populated with people; or rough terrain. CLEMC formed the B.E.R.T. (bike emergency response team) to provide a rapid response team that can provide care at special events in any area. The mobility of the bike team can be difference between life and death.
In 2005 CLEMC's B.E.R.T. achieved a "life save" during cardiac arrest that occurred at the Houston Marathon. The B.E.R.T. was able to rapidly respond to the call through congested crowds, and provide the AED. CLEMC's B.E.R.T. continues to receive requests to provide rapid response at special events. Throughout the area B.E.R.T. provides their services at Seabrook Lucky Trails Marathon, Galloway Gallop, and Kemah Fun Run. They are also utilized for many other fun runs, marathons, and Kemah Boardwalk events.
